The 6-minute weekly bathroom reset
A bathroom can be properly clean in six minutes if you do it weekly: 60 seconds toilet (cleaner under rim, brush), 60 seconds mirror, 90 seconds sink and counter, 90 seconds shower walls (squeegee + spray), 60 seconds floor. Beyond six minutes you are doing a deep clean, which is monthly, not weekly.
Limescale: the only chemistry you need
For limescale on taps and showerheads, a 30-minute soak in white vinegar dissolves it without scrubbing. For the toilet bowl, overnight with a cup of vinegar. There is no need for branded limescale removers in soft- or moderate-water areas.
How fairness is calculated
Behind the scenes, every chore gets a numeric weight from its effort (small / medium / large), frequency, and a difficulty modifier for the genuinely unpleasant tasks. The algorithm distributes weight across people, not chore counts — three counter wipes do not equal one toilet scrub, and the schedule respects that. Annoying tasks rotate separately so the same person never gets the bin two weeks running. Full details on the methodology page.
FAQ
How often should you clean a bathroom?
Surface clean weekly (toilet, sink, shower, mirror, floor). Deep clean monthly (grout, behind toilet, shower head). Wipe down counter daily if it gets messy.
What's the right order to clean a bathroom?
Top to bottom: mirrors first, then sink and counter, then shower/tub, then toilet, then floor last. This stops you re-dirtying clean surfaces.
What products do I need to clean a bathroom?
All-purpose spray, glass cleaner, toilet cleaner, a scrub brush, microfibre cloths, and a mop. That's it.
How often should the toilet really be cleaned?
Quick under-rim and seat wipe twice a week if shared, weekly if solo. Full deep clean (descaling, behind, base) monthly.
What's the best way to clean shower glass?
Squeegee after every shower (10 seconds, dramatically reduces buildup) plus a weekly spray of 1:1 vinegar/water. Avoid expensive shower-glass sprays — vinegar matches them on results.
Should I use bleach in the bathroom?
For periodic mould treatment, yes. For weekly cleaning, no — it doesn't actually clean grime, it only kills the staining colour. Use a normal bathroom cleaner weekly, bleach occasionally on visible mould.
